Overall opening to our thriller: The Marshlands

Editing

We began editing on the laptop, we began by putting all the videos together in which we then cropped, added effects and matched all the videos up with the time. we added effects such as cross dissolve and lightening and darkening the videos. We also added a after effect of the title. We put the titles on last where we believed was appropriate places to put  them. After we was happy with our video we shown it to other students in which they gave us pointers to improve and correct things.

Green Screen

Here is our first practice on green screen, we decided to try new technology's when we first did the preliminary piece so we had a wide range of media to help us gain knowledge.

Audience feedback

Here we have a photo of 2 students of our typical age range we chose to look at our video and see what they enjoyed and what they thought we could have done better.
When asked what they thought of our thriller this was their response:
'There is digetic sound running throughout the openingand the music fits in with the genre and the setting. The voice over that is over the opening makes it sound intimidating to the audience and the wording links carefully to the genre. Throughout the piece there is a variety of different shots which is good as you understand there is someone watching the characters. The iconography is good, the camping clothes, woods and tents. The only thing i would say to improve is the lighting at the end of the thriller, it darkens quickly.'

This was helpful for us as we got a understanding of other peoples first impressions of our thrillers, we wanted to know if they would get the overall story and if they felt the same airiness of what they get when seeing a thriller in the cinemas.

Filming

    Day 2 of filming!

I took some snapshots today of seeing everyone working the camera and the tripod, We all took part in seeing which camera angles we preferred and so that everyone had a chance to work the camera.
Everyone having turns with the tripod and the camera meant that we all gained skills and would all be able to use these equipment again. On this day we got most of our filming done so the timing and lighting will all be in order of going from light to dark, showing the illusion of the friends spending the night on the fields.

Raining!!

This afternoon we hoped to go out and film the beginning of our video. However it began to rain and become quite heavy in which we realised it wasn't suitable as the cameras will get wet and the location will be extremely muddy and not the correct conditions for the filming to be done.

We learned from our mistake of not checking the weather forcast and we will make sure for our next filming day that we check the weather.

Storyboarding

Liam is Story boarding so that when we go out on to the set we don't have to think about what shots and what things we will be filming as we have a plan. This helps us save time when on set as we know exactly what we are doing.

Storyboard

This is our first storyboard, showing the first 4 scenes of the opening. This explains us using shots such as  high angle shot, medium shot and establishing shots, these will enable us to set the scene of the thriller.

Hard at work

Here we have Liam working on our storyboards, putting in the shot and angle of the camera in this shot. We also put the different movements and what sort of actions will be happening in each shot. These will be saved so we can look at them when producing our film.

Final storyline

This is our final storyline, this helps us when storyboarding as we can see what the overall conclusion of the film will be so we can have more ideas to put into our initial opening of the thriller and not to show to much about the film for us to keep the audience captured.

Thriller story

This is a draft of our whole story of the thriller showing that we have a full idea of what will happen during the full film.

users and gratification

This was made for our group by Liam.

First Draft

Here we planned out the things in which we would want in our speech over the video. This was just a draft as we put down all the ideas in our head onto this piece of paper but then remembered different things in which would sound better.

Titles

Here We sat in a Group and all thought of a Title in which we believed suited the film, we then all talked about why we thought each title was good for the piece. We then narrowed it down to two titles: the unknown and Marshlands. We then looked at positives and negatives to each of the titles and to know what each one was about.

Overall we all decided on the Title of Marshlands, This is as it matches in with our location and also we believed that the sound of marshlands was more catchy and sounded more like a thriller.

Top 5 thrillers

Here I looked at the most popular thriller films, this gave us an insight into what type of thriller sells the best so we could put this into our planning so that our thriller would be suitable for a wide range of audience. This also gave us ideas as these thrillers must be exciting and enthusiastic as they are in the top 5 so we could take ideas to make out thriller more engaging.

Location-Darley dale

here we went to a location in which we believed would be good for the setting of a horror film. we took photos to help us understand at what part of the filming we want what and to keep our mind refreshed about the location so we can make up a storyline. We mostly used long shots so we could give other people in the group and audience a view and establishing shot of where the film will be set, and how it will help gain our atmosphere.

Practicing of the titles

here we looked at different ways in which we could use as the title and the different effects to help show the audience this is a thriller.

questions in which we asked to gain more insight into peoples opinions on thrillers.

when we was thinking about starting to plan our thriller we wanted to get some advice from different ages and backgrounds. This will help us hit our target audience with things in which we would like to put into our thriller as we asked them questions in which gave us an insight into the kind of thriller different ages preferred. the questions in which we asked are:
how old are you?
do you like thrillers?
what would you expect in the opening of a thriller?
whats your favourite thriller?

Location

When we first began looking into where our thriller can be filmed we all picked a place in which we thought it would be suitable for our storyline. We then all sat in a group and picked apart the locations by putting a negative and positive point for each location. This is a photo of my Points. We then all agreed to have the filming done at Darley Dale.
